  1. First Class - Portrait II @ The Smithsonian

    by , 04-14-2009 at 09:30 AM
Well, we are off to a great start with the class. Some familiar faces, and some new ones - several of the women from the last class did not make it for this one, but Robert and Kathleen (husband and wife duo) came, and Phil, the tall, skinny guy also came. We did a slight recap of the last session of the Portrait 1 class, with a twist - we used the diffuse lighting setup for "butterfly" lighting from the solo portrait/headshot setup, but this time, we used it to light group portraits. ...

  2. Smithsonian Portrait Class Level II

    by , 04-13-2009 at 07:43 AM
I've got the first session tonight of the level II Classical Portraiture class down at the Smithsonian. I'm really looking forward to it. I've been in a bit of a creative slump lately, so having the class will hopefully spur my juices by making me get out and shoot more.

  3. Demo recap

    by , 04-03-2009 at 10:24 AM
Well, it went quite well overall. VisArts has a decent wet darkroom, with enough space to process even fairly large silver prints (maybe 5,6 enlarging workstations, and a 12' or so sink). 4. Platinum/Palladium printing demo tonight

    by , 04-02-2009 at 10:06 AM
I've been invited to do a platinum/palladium printing demo tonight at the Large Format club gathering at the VisArts center in Rockville. It's just a quick demo, not a full-on class, but still, it's something.

  5. Stupid G. A. S., waiting on a pinhole and printing put on hold

    by , 03-29-2009 at 12:06 PM
Well. Just when I though the G. A. S. had subsided. I was bemoaning the loss of my XG-M to a friend who was getting into photography (I, over the years have been generous ot a fault). I have hooked about eight friends up over the years with 35mm Minolta setups, all sr-T's or XD/XG's. So I am fondly remembering my first camera, XG-M. And I really have been missing it lately. Don't worry, I know precisely where it is and I might even try and swap my new XG-1 for it. Yeah, I did it again. Last ...
