Can anyone give advice about publishing black & white photography in the USA? As I live in England, the only one I know of is Aperture, but there must be many others, some more respected than others.

You could have a look at "Lenswork" to which I subscribe. Not quite the same as "Aperture" but a lot of very good work is published.

Define "publishing". It can mean different things to different people.

I presume there is still an annual "Photographer's Market" that lists hundreds of potential markets from books and magazine to contests and cards.
Is View Camera magazine still around?

Seriously, if you want to publish in the US thats the best way to find ou about a lot of markets and critical information about those markets, like what they want, how they want it, when they want it, and how much and when they pay if they want it. But yes View Camera is still around.
