PDN with an Epson 2200 loaded with MIS's Ultratone inks?

    Hi all,

I have a 2200 loaded with MIS's Ultratones. I'm using Bowhaus' Ink Jet Control/Open Printmaker software (great combo...).

I was wondering if anyone has tried M. Nelson's method with these or other quadtone inks? I've also emailed Mark.

    Thanks,

    Jon

    Jon,

According some of Mark's posts on the Alternative Process Mail List he doesn't recommend quadtone or hextone inks for use with his method. In a nut shell Epson UC or Epson dye color inks act as filters of UV light in a manner which require a less radical adjustment curve than you would have to use with a hextone inkset. Hextone inks tend to block rather than transmit UV light. Also MIS inks do not adhere to transparency substrates, they simply wipe off when they are touched even though they are dry. At least that has been my experience.

    Hi Don,

Thanks for the post. I emailed Mark directly and he basically said "try it out." His concern was with the UT inks giving enough density--so the issue doesn't seem to be a matter of the inks blocking UV.

I wasn't aware of the adherence problem--but thanks for mentioning that--I'll try it on some OHP I have around and keep a close eye on it so I don't make (another) mess...
