imagesetter negatives
I have been making imagesetter negatives using rastus and processing 1800 dpi bitmaps at 1800 dpi. Originally we were processing 1800 dpi bitmaps at 3600 dpi. Unexplained streaks occur and one work-around was the 1800 dpi output. Still streaking can occur on occasion. For known problem files (ones that have streaked) the next work-around appears to be to output 1200 dpi bitmaps at 2400 dpi. This output will be fine for hand coated papers. However, I am trying to complete a series that requires AZO prints. Here is the question: All of my files are 8 bit. Has anyone experienced these problems and corrected it using 16 bit files?

I use halftone negatives for my digital negs. I have heard of this type of problem from Brooks Jensen. He was able to convince the imagesetter clean their machine. They did and the streaks disappeared.
He is infinitely more knowledgable about this than me. Drop him an email with your concern. He's been out of town this past week,so the response might be slow.

Hi Joe,
Thanks. I use copygraphics and Peter has assured me his machines are properly serviced. I will try to contact Mr Jensen.
