    Photowarehouse transparency film

I bought some transparency film from photowarehouse to make digital negs with but I'm getting bands when I print on it. Pictorico OHP prints fine with the same settings. So what gives?

Thanks in advance for the help

Are the bands parallel with the run of the print head, or with the rollers? If it is with the rollers it is because they are picking up some of the ink from the OHP material. Crystal Clear does not dry nearly so fast as Pictorico. And don't ever, ever put it in backward. Always check to make sure that you are using the coated side by licking your fingers and seeing which side the finger sticks to. If you happen to put a sheet through on the wrong side with Crystal Clear you are in for a all afternoon clean up of the printer.

Some people using Epson 2200 printers found that they got bands from the rollers and with that printer there is a way to remove the rollers, which alleviates the problem. I use the Photo Warehouse Crystal Clear film with the Epson 2200 and have no problems at all.

I'll bet it's the rollers! I remember your warning about printing on the wrong side so I labeled the package, *lick and stick* in big, red letters.

So does removing the rollers cause problems with other papers?

I can not say for certain because the Crystal Clear goes through my Epson 2200 fine with the rollers in place. But I do clean them on a fairly regular basis so that may be the explanation for my success. However, based on reports by others on the alt-photo-process list removing the rollers does not cause problems,

Don Bryant is something of an expert on this issue so maybe he will weigh in.

Removing the rollers from the 2200 is not at all required. There are two sets of rollers that have to ne dealt with when using Ultrafine Clear Film.

The first set of rollers, most often referred to as "pizza wheels" will leave their tracks seen as lines of fine dots running perpendicular to the print head movement. These are quite easy to deal with. You can do this by opening the top lid of the printer and look down and the way to your left as you face the printer. You will sight a white nylon roller in the middle left area. Gently reach down and lift the pizza wheel bar up and at the same time press the nylon roller down. It will then click into place lifting the entire bar assembly up. It will remain in that position and allow the print head to travel back and forth unencimbered.

The second set of wheels that need to be lifted are the exit rollers that have black rubber banding girdeling the white plastic hub. The easiest way to describe the method for lifting those can be found at this URL:

    Good luck,

So are you saying I need to buy those roller holders? Sorry - I'm confused!

All they are are the ends of tiny wire ties inserted in the front of the wheels to raise them. You could buy them if yous wish or purchase them locally if you don't have them. Look closely at the exit rollers and at the illustration on the web page I pointed you to and I think you will understand the procedure.

I figured out how to lift the pizza wheels but lifting the exit rollers has me stumped. What is the CD bar? I can not find anything that lifts all of the wheels at once.

    Hi Sandy

I don't think you can lift all the rollers at once; They have to be lifted individually and those tie-wrap heads have to be inserted to keep them up. At least that's what I've discovered so far.

And the cd bar is a rather slim bar about 5 inches long & attached to the assembly that holds the rollers. If you look into your printer from the front, it's on the left.
