Canon / Leica Shootout.
This months Photo Techniques has an interesting article in the back comparing three digital cameras, the top of the line Canon, the new digital R9 and a Oly E100. The R9 with standard film lenses held it's ground and bested the Canon in some ways in straight shooting. The interesting part of the article tho, and why I am noteing it here, is that when the Leica lens was placed on the Canon thru an adapter, the resultant pictures were the best of all. Apparently it was the lens that made the real difference. Now just add film and you've got the best of all.

You might also note that the R9 is a regular full frame SLR 35mm film camera that also takes a digital back, so you can shoot either film or digital with the same body and lenses. (Making it hybrid, and appropriate for discussion in this forum? ) He's also comparing with the Canon L lenses, their premium line, and lists seven specific parameters in which he finds the R lenses generically better. He's evidently pretty impressed, but he doesn't go into any specifics on which lenses were used, either Canon or Leica. The way it's written implies that he shot a sampling of lenses of each brand. The Canon body also had a 67% advantage in pixel count.

I didn't want to offend anyone with the digital posting into any of the main forums.
Yes I would love to know the lenses he tried, and since the Leica is a, what 6mp? camera, I guess the photo sites are larger which may account for some of the returns.

I checked it out, the Leica is a 10mp camera.
