FWIW, I think people are either "club joiners" or not. Further, my impression is that the ranks of the club-joiner type is smaller now than in times past. Clubs mean structured schedules - something that many people no longer have time for in their non-work life. But, it's (the potential for success) all a matter of having a critical mass of like-minded people, and having a couple of people willing to spend the time at organizing things. (People willing to spend time and effort with little or no expectation of appreciation.)

Irregularly-scheduled "events" may have greater potential for success presently. And, the participants are likely to be different at each such event. But, if approached casually, even having one other person show up can be considered a success.

Re Ralph's comment about club joiners - was at a conference this weekend (boring) where one of the speakers talked about the "Bowling Alone" phenomenon. More people are involved in bowling that ever before in history, yet the number of people who are actually members of bowling leagues is declining. The implication is that people are more interested in activities that involve interacting with others than in joining organizations.

someone suggested meeting at/after the san jose camera show this saturday. below is the email i sent out. it contains my contact info and a photo for clues on who i might be. if any SF/area apuggers are interested in being club-joiners (to borrow a phrase ) then let's meet!

There are some restaurants at the Rivermark center (Montague) or even McCarthy Ranch/Ranch 99 area (237/880).

Sorry I missed you! I had a play for the kids @ 1pm, and was away for a few days. I *was* at the PhotFair but only bought one small thing (a filter). There was almost NO Bronica gear! Go fig....
