UK Autumn 2008 Meeting Venue

Well, the Spring meet is now a memory, albeit a very pleasant one so where next?



(See, I’ve forgotten about Les leaving us to perish in the wintery wastes of Northumberland already.)


So where to in the Autumn? I suggest we post ideas regarding possible venues on this thread, and then we can organise a poll in about a month to find out which venue is favourite and take it from there.

i'd second anywhere in the west - cornwall would be nice. Wales too.

At Seahouses, the Southwest was mentioned as a possibility as were both Wales and the Peak District. There was also the idea of using a city as a base to allow for some street photography (although this might impact on cost).

I'm fine with all the above and other venues too, but I'd like to avoid Cornwall in the tourist season if possible...!

The Southwest, Wales and the Peak Distict are all good by me and I would like to see all three venues put forward for a poll.

I'm not sure as to the praticalities of a city venue as a base. I frequently travel to cities for holidays and I find it's generally best to do so without a car and consequently I tend to travel light. A lot lighter than I do to APUG meets A viable alternative may be staying in a working village/small town such as seahouses. I think you would have to stay in the village and not down the road, but then this may be an advantage if the hotel bar was out of action

My own suggestions would be:
Peak District
Oxford / Cotswolds
Both fairly central and therefore minimum travel for all.

I'd throw in Brecon (market town, Beacons) and Pembroke (castle, coast).

Dartmoor? Tors, River Valleys, Woodland, Stone Circles and Avenues, Thatched Cottages, Exeter nearby, Plymouth nearby, Tavistock nearby.
Pubs everywhere and to cap it all its only just up the road for me

Good see all those who made to Northumberland and I thoroughly enjoyed the weekend and the weather! Any of the already mentioned locatations would be OK with me out of season in the autumn.

I am happy with all the ideas put forward and will follow the majority. This said, I thought that the city idea proposed by various people was very good.
