Autumn 09 Meet?

Guys, hopefully you have had enough time to from the fun in Penzance

Are we interested in an autumn meeting?

If so, where would we like to go

We have previously visited:-
  • Keswick, Lake District
  • Wells-next the-Sea, North Norfolk
  • Canterbury, Kent
  • Avebury
  • Symonds Yat, Ross-on-Wye
  • Seahouses, Northumberland
  • Hawes, Yorkshire Dales
  • Anglesey, N Wales
  • Penzance, Cornwall

Polite suggestions only please

Martin

Turkey, it doesn't rain in the Autumn here

What about Shropshire around Iron-bridge, short hop to Bridgnorth & the Severn Valley railway, great countryside, very interesting places to visit, quite central & easy to get to.

I really enjoyed the Penzance meet, and I may be back for a couple of weeks, depending on work commitments.

Ian

Martin,

What about the suffolk coast? Interesting beaches, coastal features etc.

I'd vote for that, but then it's on my doorstep.

It is, in fact, a suprisingly varied and photogenic area.

There's at least one other APUGer residing in the county too, (mikeg, who ought to be shouting about his group's upcoming exhibition).

I'm quite partial to Ambleside - Relatively easy to get to, some cheap camping. On the downside, often wet, crawling with tourists.

One question though - Did you have any specific dates in mind ?

I agree Shropshire would be a good venue.

Thanks for kicking that one off Martin.

Keep me on "Dunno yet what I am doing" list. I am hoping to go to Singapore later this year and Japan , and I doubt my holiday budget will stretch very far this year. If I can make it to the Autumn meet, I will.

Paul, we usually do it in the following order:-

Everyone chipping in with their suggestions for locations

All vote on the choice of locations

Suggestions then vote on possible dates – Bob came up with a cunning plan for this years Spring Meet to vote for all of the dates that you could make.

Having settled on a date we look for a suitable Hotel in the location – there are usually one or two APUGers in the area who volunteer to do the scouting round and come up with suggestions.
(We tend to use a hotel as “Base Camp” but its very much up to the individual – for instance Ian Grant camped with his cousin in Cornwall but came over to the Hotel in the evening to socialise and look at each others prints)

Finally everyone suggests their favourite photographic locations – but we are all free to do our own thing – however, there is often a main and one or more splinter groups each day.

The weekends are mainly a social get together and the opportunity to explore a new area for photographic possibilities.
The taking of actual photographs is very much a secondary affair (a large group of photographers collected together is not generally considered to be a recipe for great photographs)

Everyone is amazingly friendly and welcoming to new faces.

I was a new face at the Spring 08 meeting in Seahouses and was welcomed into the group immediately.
