Yeah, Scott... introduce us all to this drug called Inside Analog Photo, then cut off our supply for a while, just when we get hooked.

I certainly can sympathize with the website issues that need addressing, but would it be possible to stick what you've got in the can on the RSS feed?

Also -- a minor thing. Could you put the topic of the show fairly early in the title? I've got the entire set of IAP on my phone, and listen to them going to and returning from work each day to remind myself that there is a wonderful world of film photography out there and not just IT drudgery. For any given show, though, I need to listen to it for about two minutes before the introductions and sponsor acknowledgments are done before I find out what show it is. The date itself is insufficient for me to know which show it is. That's liable to change, though, as I listen to each show over and over and over, waiting for the next shows to hit the feed, I might get to the point where I memorize what date goes with what guest.

Fantastic content. Please keep it up. If possible, could you please increase the bitrate a notch or two above 96kbps? I presume a lot of these you're doing with yourself miked, and the guest on the telephone, and the combination of the bitrate and the telephone connection makes the audio quality somewhat distracting and occasionally hard to digest.

Thanks again for the great work, Scott. I'm really looking forward to hearing more shows.

    Hello:

I am almost there... And the ones in the can will go up first.

Also since i am encoding at 64K Mono and at VBT it does go up to 96k plus.

I will try one at a higher bit rate and see if you can even tell on your studio monitors.

Thanks again for the kind words and there is LOTS more to come.

    Thanks for your support !!

    Scott,

I listened to some of your interviews. They all were worthwhile listening too.

The problem I have is understanding you. I assume this comes true for other non-native speakers not being accustomed to your speed and pronunciation. I did a short transcription for Apug of part of your interview with Scott DiSabato and you really brought me into trouble.

(To be fair: it is fine that only few here at Apug have heard ME speaking English.)

One issue that I've noticed in the interviews is that it seems they're being produced using a program that cuts out brief periods of silence between words, so as I listen with my in-ear headphones, I hear what seems to be quick interruptive cuts between words and phrases. I have read of programs that "pack" voice recordings into smaller files by digitally "pushing the words closer together" as I think of it. In any case, I find it unnatural and disturbing. I like the interviews, but I don't like how they are recorded?

Or am I imagining all this?

In any recording, sound for movies, CDs, or radio, sudden loss of ambient noise is extremely noticeable to the human ear.
Many noise canceling software/devices will clip noise below a certain sound level, and digital compression software does the same - the noise (think of it as base fog on film) will be cancelled out between words, because the total level of sound (noise or noise+voice) falls below a certain threshold.
To make a sound recording believable to the human ear, ambient sound, like telephone noise, street sounds, nature sounds etc, needs to not be excluded. Sometimes it's good if it can be reduced, but it needs to be there. (And, sometimes in movies you may even want to increase the level of that sound to emphasize or pinpoint a certain condition of the scene or circumstance).
I would guess it's an attempt to keep the file size low and subsequently the compression rate.

I wonder where the new interviews are?

    What did you print lately?

I often work with a video crew on assignment for one of my corporate clients. They always record a few minutes of ambient sound in each different setting for use in post production.

Does anyone have any podcasts they can recommend that focus on film shooting? It'd be nice to have some similar content to listen to until the new stuff gets posted.

Jeff Curto's podcasts are often interesting. Otherwise, there is a video podcast called 'Art of Photography' which is well presented but is aimed at beginners.

Yep, I discovered those a while back. We actually listened to an entire semester of his course one route 66 road trip. It was great. I'm getting the sense, though, that there is no other podcast interviewing film shooters and prominent people in the traditional photography arena. Anyone know of any?
