Need to find a flash connector thingie...

So I built a Packard box for my 2D. It's got a great 6.5" in it with the flash terminal, so where can I find a little flash nipple thingie to mount on the box and connect to the spade teminals of the Packhard? You know, the little thingee the cord plugs in to, like the one on an SLR? A PC connector? is that what it's called? Or is there a better way? There must be. I submit this query to the Gods of APUG.

    Good Evening,

How about cannabalizing some old, beaten-up camera for its PC fitting?

    hey jason

why not use a household plug thingy.
some flashes use them instead of the little nubby thingy.
and radio shak probably sells them

    good luck!

    Jason,

I picked up a small plug and jack set midway in size between an RCA plug/jack and headphone plug/jack at Radio Shack for a Packard box I built. I connected it to a standard flash cord and it works fine.

just go to your local camera store (ideally one with a good used junk department) and find a short PC-to-PC sync cord. Chop it in half, and hook up the wires from the (female?) half to your Packard shutter. I did that with my 8" monster on my Century Master studio camera and it worked just fine once I tweaked the sync mechanism in the Packard shutter (this may require a little work, but it's quite easy to perform surgery on a Packard shutter).

On the other hand, they must sell these somewhere, and I looked around and couldn't find one (not at Micro-Tools, smallparts, Google...). Frank Marshman used such a thing to add a neat and elegant flash sync to my Luc-type shutter, and it didn't look cannibalized from another shutter.

    You mean like this one?
Probably be cheaper to salvage one from a pc cord though...

J Brunner, I have made a camera PC terminal out of the brass and plastic tubing you can find at hobby stores. Find the brass tube that is the same outside diameter as the post, then the plastic tube that just fits inside it, then the small brass tube that fits inside the plastic tube. You will have to drill out the small hole to fit the inside post of the PC plug. A tiny bit of glue will keep things together. The advantage here is that now you have 12-inches to cut up and use in several cameras.
What I have done for synced Packard shutters on studio cameras is use standard audio plugs and jacks available from Radio Shack - I settled on the size used by Whitelightning, which is also available as a standard tip from Paramount Cords.
