23 people are now on the list...

If you are interested in the Free Owens Valley Workshop and would like to participate but have not registered we have to put you on a waiting list for now. Our original limit was 22. Usually some people are unable to come at the last moment so space may open up.

To be put on a waiting list please email:

I'm glad I sent my note last night... This sounds like it should be a great outing.

Here's a great image taken by Wilbur Wong last year in Bodie...

Most photographers when visiting Bodie - or other mining towns - never get beyond the leaning buildings, old wood etc.

Wilbur - in my opinion - managed to shoot one of the best images I have ever seen of Bodie - last year during our free Eastern Sierra Workshop.

It draws the viewer into an metaphysical world full of mystery - decaying life - and almost cosmic content.

And yet all it is - is really just a window... or is it?

Per, I generally don't care much for images of Bodie, but I really like the image you have posted on your workshop page. I wish I could join you, but I'll be in Australia in October.

    Hi Per:

Is there an itinerary for the workshop yet? Personally, I've seen Bodie enough. I am bringing a Jeep 4WD and I may opt for exploring some backroads around Bodie while others shoot the town.

Any other places on the list?

Will there be print viewings? Do participants brings prints to show the group or do just you show prints?

    Thanks.

Last year we started out in Bodie, some showed prints back at the campground, and Per showed a video on the history of Bodie in relation to his Danish Immigrant project. Some folks went off to June and Mono lakes to shoot, some stayed and explored Bodie. Essentially you can shoot wherever you want. At the end of the day we'd sometimes gather for a joint dinner at the campground cafe.

After Bodie we traveled down to Mammoth area and just south of there is Convict Lake, then on down to Bishop and Lone Pine

Anyone can bring prints for show or critique. Per can elaborate on this years gathering and he might have a surprise or two up his sleeve
