Street photography Workshop with Steve Anchell
June 8-10, Tuition: $225 Limited to 10 students!
The 2007 Rose Festival Centennial
Cosponsor with Leica Camera
Steve Anchell has been teaching street photography techniques in NYC for the International Center of Photography for the last four years. He has found that it is easier to learn and practice street photography when it is focused around an event. This year he will use the Rose Festival as the event at which to teach Portland area photographers.
Renowned for its festive and carnival atmosphere, the Rose Festival is any photographer's paradise for investigating the spontaneity and rhythm of the street. The Portland Rose Festival was first held in 1907 so this year is a very special event and the city will be going all out. Our street sessions will take place in and around the waterfront of Portland and may include one or more of the following subjects: the Tall Ships; the Queens Coronation; the Dragon Boat Races; the Centennial Ball.
Steve teaches five unique techniques for photographing street subjects. From standing in a doorway with a long lens to engaging your subject in conversation. You will be shown how to identify and approach your subject, and practice what you have learned during the festival. Lessons will include, but not be limited to, which cameras and lenses work best and when to use flash and how to use it during the day for dramatic effect, pre-focusing, using digital for street photography, and using film.
This workshop is meant to be a fun learning experience for all levels—beginning or advanced, amateur or professional. The Rose Festival Association has granted us Photographers passes. So that we have access to many events and locations not available to the public. We will share our images with the Association for this benefit.
This workshop is cosponsored by Leica. However, you are welcome to bring any camera you like working with, digital or film. Feel free to bring a Leica M7 or a pocket digital camera!
