Default Yosemite Collodion Workshop

Announcing a NEW wet plate collodion field workshop in
Yosemite Valley, California • May 7-10, 2009

The course fee is $600 ($100 deposit required to hold place).
A large 3350 sq ft lodge has been reserved in the Redwood Vacation homes, Wawona area of the Yosemite National Park for only $100 per night, per person (3 nights required). Payment is to me, NOT the Parks as I have paid upfront. See cabin: http://www.nationalparkreservations.com/15B.htm

10 students maximum. Beginners and Advanced. All Cameras, chemistry. and equipment provided. Call for possible rooms for family members

Instructor: Will Dunniway of Corona, California, has been a professional graphic artist and photographer for over 40 years. For 20 years a field collodion artist, Will brings to life the 19th century art of wet plate collodion photography using original cameras and lenses in one of the countries most photographic locations.

The wet plate collodion FIELD course description:

Students will learn the making of glass negatives and tintypes (ferrotypes, tin plate direct positives). At the start of the workshop there will be a briefing on the wet plate collodion process step-by-step from the mixing, pouring, exposing and development of plates poured with wet collodion. The newest edition of the manual, Making the Wet Collodion Plate in 16 Steps by Will Dunniway is included along with all materials in the course fee. Students will use period 1860 and 1871 field cameras and 1860-70 lenses. Workshop features 2 1/2 days of intensive hands-on making of glass negatives and ferrotypes (tintypes) in the same manner that Carelton Watkins and Eadweard Muybridge did 140 years ago. Each student will make and take home a few positives and or negatives of the Yosemite Valley. We will attempt these scenes. Yosemite Falls, El Capitan, Three Brothers, Cathedral Rock and the Royal Arches.

The workshop begins on May 7, Thursday afternoon at 4 pm and ends around noon on May 10, Sunday. All materials and equipment provided. Food and lodging (see above) not included.

Here are the details. The cost of the workshop is $600. A $100 deposit check (refundable in some cases) is required to hold your place. A $500 balance is due at the beginning of the workshop.

The lodging fee must be paid in full by March 1, 2009 to reserve your place as this has already been paid to the parks. Lodging in Yosemite is almost impossible to get and this place is a deal. It is best we stay, work and eat together, this is why the large lodge rental was chosen (3340 sq ft/full kitchen/6BR/4Ba w/ 600 sq foot deck).

Checks can be mailed to:
