As a note in a lot of markets Kodak is the lowest priced of the big three and not by a small margin. In Austria for instance Ilford is in average 1 to 2 Euros more expensive than similar Kodak products Fuji is even more expensive. So how evil is Kodak I'd say less evil in their price politcs than their competitor who don't get even half the flack Kodak receives.

I also think that Alaris and EK should employ a Simon Galley type.

A happy Kodak, Ilford and Fuji user.
Well Im happy for you in Austria.
But my point was a marketing observation our happy snappers are buying rebadged Fuji 200 for two reasons it is in a Poundland (real cheap) chain shop and cheap.
The Ilford, Kodak and Fuji in the pharmacy few doors away will not be selling like it might otherwise sell. So the pharmacy chain may not restock with the same volume.
My circumstances are different I only use mono and buy 5222 (cine) cause it is about 50% of Ilford bulk and 25% of Kodak's bulk.
The distribution margins seem large and Fuji may need to dump excess production before exiting the market.
Agfa did the same as they went broke.
Im still shooting Agfa speed trap film I got about 2000 feet of it in '07.
Id suggest Kodak's management have fallen of the potty to sell into a saturated market you need to cut overheads from production to end user.
Eastman would not have recruited a bungee manager.
Fuji look like they are saying Sayonara.
5222 is an excellent product even if it were at a premium price, my Kodak all in one office printer does excellent gilee prints I bought it cause it was the cheapest scanner...

The most sold film products are single use cameras I believe Kodak was very strong in that market. So from a purely marketing perspective Kodak beats Fuji with single use cameras. KA also sells super cheap films in some supermarket chains in Germany and Austria.
After looking at online offerings from UK retailers I have to say that the price for film in the UK is utterly and completely nuts.

Xmas how many rolls of 5222 do you shoot per year? More than a 1000 ft more than 2000ft or less than either.

But in some of the new episodes they've been saying other things, I think maybe destroy was an alternate? I know the metal men (forget name) say "delete" lol

Thank you for the link. I think Steve'ss post is very interesting and relevant to the discussion of film prices. It's often not the film mfg who increases the prices but the retailer. The mfg get's the flack though.

I don't shoot 5222 all the time depends on cloud cover in total I use

minimum in summer is 400 foot a month.
    max 1200 foot a month

in winter can drop to 200 foot a month

but Ive still got a stash of

    Agfa APX400S (it was cheap)
    HP5 cine
    Ru cine

    and some expired bulk Formapan

Occasionally I buy expired 135 loads.

So eg I use PET APX400S on dull days cause it flares and light pipes HP5 or 5222 bright sun...
with multi coated and single coated lenses respectively

Lots of people use cine mono some use cine colour.

Sorry no easy records of film type used per day/year
Just fridges without food and cupboards of filing.

I hope this doesn't happen in the US and I hope the Australians can find a good retailer that doesn't charge as much.

X-mas thank you for the info I admit I would have thought of a much lower number, although 36 to 215 Rolls a month is/was quite common in certain areas of photography.

Stone the price increase was made by a retailer not by EK or KA.
