Canada's too cold and wet. Oz is too hot and dry.

Oh excuse me- I gotta go. Gotta get ready for fire season.
I do use a digital device in my photographic pursuits when necessary.
When someone rags on me for using film, I use a middle digit, upraised.

My lazy streak has me using mail order with a local lab here in the Ottawa area. I figure ten bucks postage each way is cheaper than a 30 Km drive each way and 10 bucks parking down-town. The folks at GPC Labworks on Bank Street in Ottawa have been happy to accommodate me. Last week I got 5 rolls of slides back, shipped in a box from 250 sheets of 5X7 Ilford paper. (which tells me they are a real lab BTW) Google them.

$10 postage each way! $20 before processing fees? You realize it would be way, Way, WAY cheaper to do your own, right?

100 bucks for special shipping to get a chemical kit? plus chemicals that would probably go bad before I could use the half of them. (I can buy HC-110 and Ilford Fixer at Henrys, but they don't list the E-6 stuff.)

If I could still get a one gallon Kit at A local store, it might make sense. I just found I can get the 1 Liter c-41 press developing kits in by mail, so I am thinking of getting my Old processing unit out to see if it still works. but I really can only use Colour Negative in a way that is not approved for APUG ears. the last time I made Colour prints was on good old EP-2 paper using used and repurposed C-41 Developer and Blix.

Now I could drive down-town and pay to park only a few blocks from the lab. Google maps gives me 30.2 Km and 28 minutes to the building. 60 Km round trip. and the better part of an Hour behind the wheel, not including a good hike from the pay parking places to the lab. Many of them would charge 5 bucks an hour up to the maximum of $12.00

My car is rated to get 6 l per 100Km. I would use 3.6 Liters of gas at $1.21 so just the gas would be nearly 5 bucks. for each of the two required trips. Plus parking. Canada Post now charges much more than the used to because the wiped out all the cheep services, 10 years ago you could mail a roll of film for 2 bucks.

I have not gone downtown since I retired.

.... and perhaps those of us who like transparencies will have to cling to black and white ones. Necessity could spark a lot of interest in the various processes, kits and, who knows, maybe the odd commercial service. Ilford.....?
