Awesome event, Bill. Thanks again for everything. I already miss everyone.

It was great to see old faces, and meet new people as well this year. If you didn't make it, try to come to the next gathering. It's a blast.

We need to make this thing a monthly gathering or something ....

    Bill,

Thanks for putting on such a wonderful event. I hope it was my first of many more to come Photostock events. I never have attended ANY event where ALL the people I met were so warm and friendly. I made a lot of new friends and hope to see everyone again. Sorry I missed some of you by my early departure, but I know my family was happy to see me.

I also thoroughly enjoyed your wet plate workshop. Met new friends and am inspired to get going with it. I would highly recommend it to anyone interested in wet plate. I look forward to seeing you again.

    Thanks again,
    Charlie

I can only echo what everyone else has said. Just got back home, blowing the travel dust off, and reflecting on what a fabulous time we had. Thanks to Bill and everybody else for making it a very special time!
I already miss everybody and can't wait for the next one.

I also echo the above. The quality of prints shown was only matched by the people attending. A wonderful experience of meeting old friends again and enjoying the pleasure of meeting the first time attenders. Thank you Bill.

Not that I would know...but I googled the phrase "until the last dog is hung". (It came up)

"Until the last dog is hung

Posted by ESC on August 25, 2002

An inquiry about this phrase was posted in 2000. I got some new information and wanted to share. (See last paragraph.)

UNTIL THE LAST DOG IS HUNG - "The earliest appearance of this phrase in print that we have been able to locate is in a novel by Stewart Edward White. Called 'The Blazed Trail,' it was published in 1902 and contains this line: 'They were loyal. It was a point of honor with them to stay 'until the last dog was hung.' White spent much of his early life on the frontier, first in the West, later in the Hudson Bay country. We would hazard the guess that the original 'dogs' hung were of the human species and that the reference is to the kind of vigilante lynchings known as 'necktie parties' in the early West. Nowadays, of course, the expression is most often heard in reference to the inevitable two or three people at every cocktail party who hang around everlastingly -- 'until the last dog is hung' and the host shows them the door." From the "Morris Dictionary of Word and Phrase Origins" by William and Mary Morris (HarperCollins, New York, 1977, 1988).

"Even now things that people thought of as regional attitudes and expressions come straight from the Senecas. When anybody from around here wanted to say they were still present at the end of a big party, they would say they had 'stayed until the last dog was hung.' Most of them probably had no idea anymore that they were talking about the Seneca New Year's celebration in the winter, where on the fifth day they used to strangle a white dog and hang it on a pole, Nobody had done that for at least a hundred years." From "Dance for the Dead," a Jane Whitefield novel by Thomas Perry (Random House, New York, 1996)

What a great way to begin my last week in Michigan. I have been fortunate to meet and become friends with so many great midwest photographers and wonderful people through this gathering over the years. On the drive home I was already scheming about getting back here next year.

Thanks, Bill, and long live Photostock!!!

Having never met any of these folks before, I remember thinking to myself, as I drove up to my first Photostock by myself last Friday, “…what am I doing…am I crazy…driving 7+ hours to meet people who I have never met before…on the internet no less…staying at a campsite by yourself…are you crazy”? Well, after setting up my tent in the drizzle and fog Friday night and then driving over to the Brichwood for the 8pm reception; the moment I walked into the door, all those crazy thoughts vanished. I was treated like an old friend by the extremely kind and welcoming folks of Photostock. Their kindness, and not to mention knowledge of photography, was amazing. I left my own family and spent the weekend with strangers who treated my like and old friend and for that I am grateful and honored to have been part of this.

I hope the moons align correctly and allow for me to make it back next year to my second Photostock, but in the interim wish to give a mighty cheers to Bill for his amazing ability to bring people together to enjoy the amazing art of analog photography!

I just walked into the door, but managed to just finish processing my first roll of b/w…it looks to have come out great…I will post some shots soon.

I want to echo all the remarks that those above have already stated and wish you all safe travels home to your families and look forward to seeing your amazing artwork as we process our film.

    Best,
Andy (the other Andy, the one from Chicago)

I got back about 2.5 hours ago... I'm wiped, but had a total blast. This was the best one yet, and like others have said, I miss everyone already... Thanks to Bill to hosting this brilliant event. It's what many of us look forward to each year... Hope there are many more like this one!!

Many thanks to Bill for organizing Photostock again this year. As always, he's a class act and a gracious host. I had a great time seeing old friends and making new ones. Can't wait to see all the photos from this event, and already looking forward to next year.

    All the best,
    Daniel
