Postcard Exchange : Round 7

Just printed rounds 6 and 7. This is the first time I've done it with the Metrolux timer, and I don't know how I lived without one for so long. I was using print times of 1.8 and 1.5 sec with my cold light head and zipping them out, and there was no exposure drift at all.

I ran out of postcard stock, so I continued on 8x10" MGIV RC Portfolio using a Saunders 4-up proofing easel, and that also made things easier, until of course I ran out of MGIV RC, and had to figure out a new exposure for MGIV FB--which turned out to be the same as RC for this particular print.

Boy, I don't know how you guys can get these things printed in 1-2 hrs!!! Took me about 3.5 hrs. Oh well, it took just about as long to get the postage from the USPS...I guess adding up stamp values is not one of their strengths. At any rate, they are printed and posted as of today!!! Yea!

Probably what most of us do to grind them out in an hour or two is to put four or five or six of them through the dev, stop and fix together. You don't need a paper safe - just use an empty paper packet to put them in as you go, until you have your five or so. Then just put them through together, making sure to rotate them in the dishes. That way, you will get through them pretty quickly.

With the proofing easel, I print four to a sheet and develop two 8x10" sheets back-to-back in an 8x10" or 11x14" tray. In a larger tray you can shuffle a stack of them. Another approach for printing a large stack of prints is to set up two or three developer trays and cycle the prints from one tray to the next and back, and use deep trays for stop/rinse and fix.

Hello all

I received the first three postcards yesterday, Gary Beasley, Mick Fagan and Daniel (SimulatorDan). If the remaining ones are as inspirational as these, then this will prove to be an even better kick in my rear end for getting back into the darkroom and start printing. I got hold of the paper yesterday, so I will get at it during the upcoming week.

I made my first batch of 30 post cards today. With my wife after me to do things I have to continue tomorrow with the rest . All should be out by Wednesday.

Thanks to Mark Fisher and glbeas for your postcards which arrived this morning; 12th June. Similar use of 'perspective' in very different images. I find I like using the same idea in some of my shots.

My goodness, I'm so snowed under with work right now and you have your finished and out the door already?? I have a big display happening in an upcoming expo this weekend so have not had time for anything else. I'll get a little more time in the next 2-3 weeks. I apologise in advance if I run a little behind.

We do have some time so don't worry, Nicole. Some of us have not either shot the negative they are going to use or picked the negative they are going to print.

I usually write on every single postcard so it usually takes me a bit of time. I don't mind. It's kind of fun trying to write something different on each one!
