It was the concepts about reference electrodes that I found good. Sure, we can't use a single junction as most of his info is geared at, but add in another junction and were closer.

Ray - you need one, thicker silver rod for the silver specific half-cell, and then you need a thinner one to make the Ag|AgCl reference half-cell. Silver wire is fine for the reference cell, so 24 or maybe 20 ga. or so, and I'm guessing 12 or maybe 14 ga. for the silver electrode.

    Silver Wire

As for the meter, I need two pieces of silver wire right now, about 99% fine and about 6" long each.

I've been thinking of a jewelry hobby store or something.

    Thanks.

Hi Ron - I have a spool of silver wire somwhere. I had 100 feet of it custom made for some application that I can't remember. I also don't remember where I might have put it, but I'll take a look.

    Regards - Jim

    Jim;

Thanks very much. I would like to buy some from you if you have it. I need about 1 foot. I may need two different types, as I'm still working on it. I can easily calibrate what I have as I have data tables of vAg in millivolts here, so it will not be too hard. I will publish the data here and/or in the book.

Oh, I wasn't aware you were making the ref as well.

Why does one need to be larger?

    What do these gage's = ?
    12
    14
    20
    24
in terms of diameter (metric) ?

The silver electrode will be hanging out in the emulsion and you want some mechanical strength, so bigger helps. In the reference electrode it can be smaller as it is sitting inside the enclosed cell where it is protected by the cell housing.

Hi Ron - I'll take a look around here and see if I can locate it. The wire is pretty thin, I think that is why I had it custom drawn. For the life of me I can't remember what I used it for, but I'm pretty sure its around here somewhere.

    Regards - Jim
