    Here's a related factoid set, just for fun, but also because you may find an old plate holder that was sized for an expected standard.

    From the 1960 edition of The Focal Encyclopedia of Photography p 1142.
    Plate Sizes and Thicknesses:

    2-1/2x3-1/2 (6x9 cm) => 0.04 - 0.05 in ( ~1.0 mm)
    4x6 in (10x15 cm) => 0.05 in (~1.3 mm)
    8x10 in (20x25 cm) => 0.06 in (~1.5 mm)
    12x15 in (30x38 cm) => 0.08 in (~2.0 mm)
    > 24 x 30 inches => 0.13 inches! Uff dah, my aching back.

    We were told they had been ordered by Ilford for safelight filter manufacture, which rings true, as it was about then they dropped the range of safelight filters. I haven't looked at one to check but it's probably 2 glasses with a gel filter sandwiched between.
    Ah yes, that makes sense.
    Thanks for the information.

    Too bad I didn't see them when I was there, maybe next time.

    Denise - I think your units for the metric thickness should be mm, not cm.

    Yup. It's nice to have eagle-eye friends watching your back! Thanks. (It's back for another pot of coffee for me.)

    And "> 24 x 30 inches => 1.3 inches! Uff dah, my aching back." doesn't sound feasible.

    1mm glass

    I hate to come off as self serving but it looks like you still don't have a supplier for 1mm clear glass. I sell it. I won't post my web address unless requested but feel free to reply with your email address and I'll send a personal message.

    Ditto on what Kirk said. (Translation: Me too! Me too!)

    It is my personal opinion that informative commercial type posts are welcomed... only when they get repeated do they quickly become unwanted.
