Gold Street Studios
We just spent the weekend in Trentham. The last time we were there, last May, we were guests at a wedding, and I was the official photographer. I didn't get a spare moment to check out Gold Street Studios. This time we were staying three nights in a former church at 600 James Lane, East Trentham, and I was delighted to discover that Gold Street Studios is just down the road. So, on Friday, after quite a few pints of beer in The Pig And Whistle in East Trentham, I rang the doorbell at Gold Street. They kindly gave me a quick look around and I left with the latest brochure on their photographic workshops. It's great to see just how many workshops they offer, and I have my eye on a few possible onew for later this year. Can anyone else recommend any courses there, please?

No, but if print sales do well this year I will definitely send Rae there for a gumbi workshop - I note there are always "booked out" signs on many of the courses month after month, which can only mean one thing

I did the Albumen workshop with Ellie a couple of years ago and I'm booked in for a copper plate photogravure one in May. I went to the first large format gathering, which now books out in a matter of minutes. It would be great if there were more spaces in it. It's a great weekend. Ellie does a great job and has a really good workshop programme. Go along by all means. Well worth it.

gold street studios is a wonderful place! Ellie sets up a multitude of workshops each year with outstanding tutors and excellent darkroom/workroom facilities. I went down for Tim Rudman's lith printing in 2010 and will be attending a gum bichromate workshop later this year. Ellie herself is a master photographer and craftsman.

Not sure if you're only thinking of alternative processes, but Richard White over at Mansfield runs an advanced printing course each year for "straight' darkroom printing.
Leica M6,
Bessa R4A,
Rolleiflex(s) 2.8/80, 4/135, 4/55.

I've done about three different courses with Richard White and recommend him highly. Gold Street do seem to specialise in alt processes, but they do also have a few standard printing and view camera familiarisation workshops.

I would think Chris Reids printing course run through GSS would be a winner.

Kevin , Gold Street has 'everything NOT digital' look at Ellie`s web-site , I attended one of 'Tim Rudmans' BLEACH & TONING-one-day Workshops , and have phoned-up Ellie from Melbourne and arranged a suitable time to call-in and view the images on display in her superb little Gallery, ( Rudmans 'Iceland images ' & Rudmans ' Trees ' ). Ellie lives on site and will open up the gallery mid-week if the day suits her.
I have also purchased selected 'toning chemicals' pre ordered and collected when I visited the gallery .
All courses run at Gold Street Studios would be well worthwhile , in my opinion. Sign-up for her ' NEWSLETTERS ' , and keep up to date .
........................... Cheers Barrie B. Melbourne .

Yes, I rang the doorbell and she gave me a couple of brochures and showed me the little gallery.
