    I've heard that people in the UK are buying Ilford products from the USA because of the huge markups, that'd be funny if it wasn't sad. So it's not just people in Australia getting screwed, it's other places too.

    My theory is that it's the distributors screwing the retail shops, and the retail shops are (understandably) too scared to upset the distributors. It's a no-win situation.

    UK Price --> $184 (£114)
    US Price --> $82

    Ah that's OK then - only 124% more expensive!

    Being pedantic, but accurate, that is not 224% MORE expensive, but 224% AS expensive.

    Same in Canada except I get 2-3 day ground shipping from NYC for $8!!! Most things are 25-100% more expensive here so $8 shipping is easily recouped. I buy from Canadian retailers only if I need something that day or if hazmat regulations prohibit them from shipping it to me.

    It has to be clear to all of us on APUG by now that buying from the U.S. is by far the cheaper option for almost if not all markets outside of the U.S.

    It has to be equally clear to Ilford as well. Maybe Ilford doesn't want to upset the distributors either. It may have simply warned them that re-importation to the U.K. or re-exportation to other markets will be the consequence. It might not affect Ilford's revenue. Well not enough for it to exercise its muscle.

    Fair enough. We can only exercise our purchase muscle and maybe that will make the "guilty parties" whomsoever they may be, change their behaviour.

    On the other hand APUGers may be only represent a slight irritation to the "guilty parties" and there will be no change in behaviour. Either way it seems clear that we can continue to do what we are doing with a clear conscience.
