Trouble w/ Polaroid 600 in Sun Autofocus - Won't spit it out!
So I just ordered some of the BRAND NEW SX-70 film from the *possible project!! However, that has nothing at all to do with my post....
Serendipitously, on this same day, I went to yee ole' antique mall and found some unopened 600 P-film for $3. Awesome.
However, I put it in my Sun Autofocus 660, I remove the darkslide, it powers up the flash, indeed it flashes, and the motor starts whirring, but no picture ever makes its way out. The counter counts down, but still nothing. I tried a couple times, and even took it out and put it back in (yes, sacrificing at LEAST the first picture).
I admit I haven't loaded or shot with a polaroid for well over a decade, but I'm pretty certain I did everything correctly. (though the complete lack of instructions on the film package is maddening).
So, what's wrong here? Is my camera busted? Am I missing something? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
In case the content of the pod has hardened meanwhile, the force of the motor may not be enough to force the pod through the tension rollers. Just a guess.
But in this case the darkslide of the film pack should have been ejected without trouble.
By the way, Impossible SX-70 BW film should not be apt for that camera.

hmmm, well that too might explain something, because I had to manually pull out the darkslide. I recall it whirring upon insertion (innuendo?), so perhaps that was it attempting to shoot out the darkslide? Like I said, I'm a noob to polaroids.
So, then if I were to go into my darkroom, put the darkslide back in, and then when I put the cartridge in the camera it should eject the darkslide automatically? If so, I'll try that and if it doesn't do that I guess one can only conclude that my camera is busted, at least the ejection mechanism.
Ok, one more thing... assuming that camera is busted, can I put the 600 pack into my SX-70, simply to test its functioning? I realize that it won't expose properly, but would it at least be useful as a tester?
If this is one of the non-folding cameras, there is a plastic "tongue" that rolls out to protect the film in the first few seconds that it's out of the camera. It may be jammed.
What happens if you manually push the darkslide or a print through the slot from the inside to the outside? I'm not sure how much force would be involved, but it shouldn't be all that hard, I'd think.
What should happen is it should catch the end of the tongue which should unroll over the card until it's all the way to the outer side of the slot.
You can put 600 in an sx-70, but you have to use the darkslide or something similar to cover a catch on the bottom of the film pack that is meant to prevent putting 600 in an SX-70. There are lots of details on the web about this.
Ok, I'll check the tongue; I know what you're referring to.

The 600 pack can go into the sx-70 if you simply file off the 4 little notches at the back that make it specifically for a 600 camera.
