Good try, but since the publisher is located in Oxford, England, I'm pretty sure he is talking about the northern hemisphere.

I tried to register just now and my mail bounced. Maybe you are doing so well that your mailbox is full.

Way Beyond Monochrome Ed2 by Focal Press

    Dear friend of photography

As promised, I'm keeping the announcements to an absolute minimum, but we also promised an update about the status and the availability of the second edition.

The good news is: We have a new publisher!

We are separating our business relationship with Fountain Press on friendly terms. They gave us an opportunity and published the first edition of Way Beyond Monochrome during a time, when many other publishers had given up on traditional photography and tried to ride the digital wave. However, the current owner has developed a new business strategy for his company, which may or may not involve the publication of photographic books. It became time to move on.

The new publisher is Focal Press!

Focal Press is an imprint of Elsevier and the largest publisher of photographic literature in the world. I'm sure, you all have books in your libraries published by Focal Press. We are extremely excited about this new relationship. Having Way Beyond Monochrome Ed2 in the experienced and professional hands at Focal Press gives us the opportunity to better serve our customers, speed up deliveries, reduce shipping cost, simplify customer payments and reach a broader market.

The bad news is: Switching publishers is causing a delay.

Way Beyond Monochrome Ed2 was ready to go with the old publisher. The ISBN number was already on the cover. The printer was chosen. We had to stop all of that and start over. But, that's done now, and we are happy that Focal Press is announcing a new publication date.

Way Beyond Monochrome Ed2 will be released and in stores on:

    September, 21st 2010

This matches the start of Photokina in Cologne, and I will be there to hand out the first copies.

If you cannot wait until the introduction, makes sure to secure a copy online at Amazon or directly from Focal Press. Both sites will take orders starting as early as:

    June, 15th

This may be important, because if the current mailing list and the 2nd-hand market of the previous edition are any indication, the new copies may sell quickly. Many customers were sorry to have missed the first edition. Don't let it happen again.

The suggested retail price for Way Beyond Monochrome Ed2 is:

    $69.95

This is an extremely competitive price for a 10x10-inch, 560 page, full-color, hardcover book. In addition, I'm trying to negotiate a small discount for everyone on the mailing list. Make sure to tell your friends to add their names, because the mailing list will be closed on June, 15th when Amazon and Focal start to take orders.

Let me close this note by thanking you all for your patience and support. You will not be disappointed.

    Ralph,

Do you have any indication of paper quality yet?

    Tom
