Good "eye" catching photo for the front cover of the book.
My initial thoughts on the web page - text Way Beyond Monochrome is repeated straight away. It's on (presumably) the book cover also right above it. Why? It's not needed repitition.
Although the image of the book cover is nice - having bought a copy of the first edition I sort of know what to expect inside. If I didn't know the book or know what I expect (I know that I will venture into the site) it is not screamingly obvious what is going on inside and why to proceed into the site.
The design is good but functionality and content is needed.
Also, the site was made on iWeb? Easy programme to use but it has an achilles heel - it relies on javascript to work. Admitedely I am on a five yr old mac at the moment but the javascript does not work, there are no menus e.g. I cannot see the link to the "what's new" page. Many work/commercial environments do not enable javascript due to security concerns. There are many easy known ways to do nav links, menu bars etc with html even css that javascript should be avoided if possible.
Sorry, sounds all bad but only trying to help with your beta version.

Many good points. Keep in mind this is under development until the book is launched. As for 'filling it with content', take a look at another development site: http://www.darkroomagic.com/temp/iWeb/Home.html
Yes, made with iWeb, and yes, all you said is true. I like to understand how big of an issue Java is. Not using it sounds like putting the brakes on progress. It that really the solution?

Wow! I'm really looking forward to this. I would like to get into contact printing by making digital enlargements of 35mm negatives (the only digital photo stuff I will do). Will there be any coverage of this technique.
Can't wait until it is available!

Just needs an easy to see/use links section. On this title page under the picture would be just about acceptable! Originally Posted by RalphLambrecht Sim2

It that really the solution? iWeb can work, but it can also disbar users from the site purely because of its reliance on javascript. where I do some graphic design work the company has not enabled javascript so we do not/cannot use stock sites that rely on javascript - no biggy for us as there are other sites to choose from but they do not get our sales/interest purely because they use javascript.
Just my experience, though.
Looking forward to the book.

Sorry, a bit more.... javascript can be a bit like flash sites - when it works its good, but when it doesn't there is no alternative and the user is frustrated at best. The website *should* be all about the users interface and accesibilty.
People do flick off flash sites the moment they try to load-up purely because it is known they restrict or make difficult the users experience.

Yes, making digital negatives for contact printing is fully covered, and the negatives can be customized to work with silver-gelatine papers or any alternative or historic print processes. In addition, we'll introduce a hybrid technique that will end up with a digitally modified negative for enlarging, without the final print suffering from image degradation due to enlarging pixels. Amazingly simple and effective!

I'm really looking forward to the release. Where will be our best options for picking up a copy upon release? Thanks!

Looks awesome - when is it expected to be available, what's the price and can we buy a copy from you directly instead of funding Amazon or Borders?
-
Your most cost effective option is to buy from local book stores or major online book sellers, because the shipping cost for this heavy book will be an issue. However, you can also order the book directly from the publisher. The contact data is listed on the website. http://www.WayBeyondMonochrome.com
The target date for publication is still 1Q2010, but the price is not set yet.
