    No matter what, I would be sure to use a Lanthanum "death metal" lens for the shoot! ~(:+>}}

    it would be reminiscent of "throbbing gristle 20 jazz funk greats"
    Or Dario Argento's Phenomena. Of course unless times have changed drastically irony was never well-received by the youth of the day (Minor Threat being a case in point).

    That's why I suggested cross-processing: Wash out the colors. You get the best (or worst) of both worlds.

    With it being autumn in the northern hemisphere, I might like to get them in a stoney creek bed surrounded by bare trees, shoot infrared.

    No reason

    I don't think there is any reason why you should not give them what they want but then try some different things. You should make up a list of all the interesting and appropriate venues (areas, fields, old factories) easily available to you and see where that takes you. I once had a gritty closed-down steel manufacturing factory available to me complete with crumpled 500-foot smoke stack laying on the ground. It was a license to steal as far as getting some "different" photos was concerned. You need to mine the areas available and find the gold vein.
