    Sodium Metaborate substute

Anybody know of a substute for Sodium Metaborate when making TF-3 fixer? Or where I can get some on a Saturday at 6:30pm in Brooklyn NY?

    Thanks,

In a pinch use Boraxo from your grocery store. Don't do it unless it is an emergency.

Check the pH with pH paper or a meter.

"From a Kodak Formulary publication, 1.4 grams of sodium tetraborate, decahydrate (Borax) + 0.3 gram of sodium hydroxide is equal to
2 grams of sodium metaborate (Kodalk) in a litre of solution"
"I only wanted Uncle Vern standing by his new car (a Hudson) on a clear day. I got him and the car. I also got a bit of Aunt Mary's laundry, and Beau Jack, the dog, peeing on a fence, and a row of potted tuberous begonias on the porch and 78 trees and a million pebbles in the driveway and more. It's a generous medium, photography." -- Lee Friedlander

Check out Mike Wilde's posting in the appropriately named thread. Mike provides the best hands on recipe I have found so far on this subject.

Also, for fixer it's not critical anyway. For developer one would have to be accurate.

Well, the pH of TF-3, 4 and 5 is critical in some ways.
