    John,

    I use two developers.

    1. Xtol - for film speed and high contrast lighting.
    2. Edwal 12 - for normal to low contrast and normal film speed.

That gives me consistent results in printing.

I use D76 as my standard.

I use XTOL with Delta 3200 and when I have to push other films beyond one stop.
Develop, stop, fix.... wait.... where's my film?

35mm APX100 in Rodinal, then ID11 at 1+1 for everything else.

After years of experimenting I have settled on HC110 generally used at dilution H. Gives a good balance of grain, sharpness and speed and lasts forever. All too often I would start to develop some film and have to stop because the developer had clearly gone bad. This never happens with HC110.

Rodinal for TMY2 and FP4+. That's about it. Sometimes I get a good deal on HP5+ from a local shop in which case I use Pyrocat HD but that isn't very often.
