    Film development for AZO

    I am working on a project that will require bleaching parts of LF neagtives (on purpose - by design) I believe this leaves out Pyrocat and any other staining developer. I would probably consider PC-TEA or Xtol for the project - I have had good luck with staining developers when making AZO (or Kalitype) prints - the densities and UV stain blocking work for me - but I believe using potassium ferrocyanide will not remove the stain densities and will not acheive what I am trying to do. Now - if I am not using a staining developer ...

    should I be developing for N+2 and a greater densitiy i.e. TRI X at 600 and N time + 50% or so? How does one usually develop for AZO (or Kalitype) in a non pyro process?

    Your N develoment for AZO #2 should give you a negative with a density range of about 1.60, or a CI of around .75. This will give you a negative that should print well on AZO #2. The DR is same as you would need with staining developers, though with traditional developers you can evaluate the negative with a regular B&W densitometer because stain is not an issue.

    With Xtol (1:1 dilution) and TXT-320 you should develop your film for about 12:30 at 72ºF to reach this CI for subjects of normal contrast. That assumes development in tubes with constant agitation. Develop about 15% longer in trays.

    I don't have any suggestion for TXT-320 and PC-TEA.
