This purple colour could disappear with a longer fix.
I had this problem with TMax films with another developper but ageing fix.
You can try re-fix a small bit of your film.
the film is Kodak t-max 400.
If the fixer is too old, should this then not have the same effect on both films? they were in the tank together.
That's why I thought it could be something with a light leak as the top film is more 'damaged' than the bottom one ?
I don't this it is a light leak, a light leak would make a black (silver) veil.
Since it is blueish on the top, there was maybe not enough fixer above the film.
Did you agitate ?
TMax film need a long fix and exhaust fixer fast.
Rik you've answered the question, the dye in Tmax has a deleterious affect on the fixer, and needs considerable fixing to remove it fully. So thats your problem.
ok guys, you have convinced me
I make some fresh fixer and try again. I did use enough fixer to cover at least the largest part of the top film. But maybe not enough agitation?
I'll do it again and make sure I have fresh and enough fixer.
thanks for the help !
I still suggest you try to re-fix a 1 cm bit of your blueish film for 10 mn in the original fixer.
The strip should then become clear, and prove the point.
Marc,
with largest part I mean i'm sure there was so much fixer in the tank that if it left anything uncovered it would only be the top 3 millimeters of the film, so lets say the strip with the holes. Still the entire film has this purple look to it. The other film is definitely a lot more normal, almost close to normal.
I think what is suggested is that I used about half of the required fixer, which is not the case.
I will refix a part of the film this evening and let you know the outcome.
