Thanks for all the great replies and information. One thing that occured to me after I posted my original message is the differing responses to color filters (yellow, orange, green, red) that one might use for traditional black and white film. But as I rarely uses filters, only the occasional polarizer, it's a nonissue for me.

Yes, I agree that the nature of the subject matter would be important. I would probably only be printing scenics and still lifes in B&W, so "people" shots would be printed in color.

I had not thought to search under the term "Panalure" but will do so.

When I run by side by side tests in a week or two, I will test both graded papers and Ilford's Multicontrast to note the differences you have mentioned.
