    We have just been informed by our factory about a raw materials fault that has affected a small
    quantity of our XP2 Super 35mm film.
    The problem has been traced to a single batch of the product.

    We have recorded very few incidents and it is our belief that only a small portion of the product is
    affected. However, due to the random nature of the defect and our commitment to supply only
    top quality, defect-free products to you and all our customers, we are taking the precaution of asking
    you to examine your stock of XP2 Super 35mm film, remove any of the affected batch from your
    shelves and return it to your local ILFORD dealer for replacement.

    This recall applies only to the following items:

    Catalog # 183 9575 XP2 Super 135 - 36exp Batch # 88CXL1C

    Catalog # 183 9584 XP2 Super 135 - 24exp Batch # 88CXL1C

    Catalog # 183 9621 XP2 Super 135 - 30.5m (100ft.) Batch # 88CXL1C

    Please note that this does NOT apply to XP2 Super 120 film
    in either single or multiroll packs, XP2 Super 135 - 12exp or 36exp in 50 roll packs or any other
    ILFORD Black and White film products.



    Will any Ilford dealer refund the film, or do I have to ship it back to B&H? Have the photo dealers been advised to expect returns? I have 6 boxed rolls remaining of the affected batch number. Unfortunately, when I pack my bag, I usually remove the film from the box (to save space and time) and only pack the cans. I guess I'm burned on those, unless there is a way to determine batch number from the cassette?


    You can try to get your local dealer to take the film, but I doubt they will since you bought it somewhere else.

    If you bought your film mail order, we can handle that directly. You don't need to send the film, only the part of the box that includes the batch number and the catalog number; we will replace the film directly.

    What form does the defect take? I had a funky roll about a month ago that I just assumed was botched processing. Is it possible that it's part of this batch?

    Dave, see the other XP2 threads on APUG and the Ilford site.

    The defect shows up as black or gray spots on the prints, light (low density) spots on the negs.

    Dave,

    This specific XP2 problem is caused by emulsion defects and has been isolated by Ilford to a specific batch of film (Batch # 88CXL1C ). This is not a processing defect.

    If you saw similar defects in another batch I suggest that you contact Ilford.

    Just got some Neopan 400CN back from the lab with what looks like the same defect - maybe 400CN is closer to XP2 than Fuji would like us to think...

    have contacted Fuji UK, who are aware of a defect, but don't know if its this, or which batch it affected (the one person who knows about it is on holiday)

    Neopan 400CN is made by Ilford in Cheshire?
