Adox Vario Classic with color head (filter settings)...

    Hi,

how can I realize what are the filter settings for Adox Vario Classic fb paper when using color head? You know, how to tweak the numbers to get for example grade 3 etc.?

I am using Durst M670 color.

Thanks a lot if you can help...

    Link please?

These settings are totally different: http://www.adox.de/english/ADOX_Pape...o_Classic.html

This my link gives setting for either yellow OR magenta. Does it mean that the other (Y or M) goes always to "0" setting?

Sorry about that, the Google-crap search showed me the page for the Adox EasyPrint RC paper.

You are right, no good table for the mixed values.

You could try the MCC values or the EasyPrint values and tweak from there. Otherwise you can make a table from scratch.

Does this chart mean that I can get the desired grade with only one filter? Depending on the grade I use ONLY yellow OR magenta value and the filter that is not used always goes to "0"?

There are two ways to emulate multigrade filters with a colour head. One uses either yellow or magenta. The other uses yellow and magenta. The advantage of the latter is that if calibrated correct one can get more stable exposure times when changing grade.
My personal experience with various papers is that generic filter settings are a starting point at best, sometimes they are next to useless.

The attached file was once published for Vario Classic but seems to be no longer online.

For a complete explanation how to calibrate your colour head to your paper see e.g. Way Beyond Monochrome.

You just need one Magenta or Yellow filter for the grades. When Magenta and Yellow combine if forms RED which the paper does not see. By varying the amount of RED, the filter combos can be tweaked so that you don't have to change exposure when changing grade.

When using the single filter method it is certainly good practice to make a new test strip every time you change grade.

I just use the combined filtration numbers Ilford publishes regardless of the paper, and tweak from there. Makes things much easier.
