agnosticnikon metioned 8 track. Oooooooooo, I remember buying the virtual ultimate in self-destructing machinery: A USED 1971 Fiat 124 roadster with an indash radio/8 track player, plus a few ancient tapes! Talk about stylin' down the road! The 8 track packed it in soon, and the Fiat was fun to drive when it was running well. Fiat back then stood for: Fix It Again, Tonio. I learned a lot about auto repair before the old girl ate its oil pump and serenaded me with the dreaded ratatatat of lunched bearings.

I wish you were closer also. 8 Track was one of those things I never...well, that's not entirely true. For a while I owned a car that a prior owner had left a deck in (along with some misc tapes). I worked at night in a part of town that wasn't the best and one evening somebody broke the side window and stole it. I was much more upset to lose the window than the tape deck.

I nominate the thief as a new contender for the title: "Greatest Loser Ever"

Breaking into a car for an 8 track deck????

Haha hey now 8 track sound was way better than cassette's as I've read just like beta max was better than VHS, does anyone know why 8 track lost? I know betamax lost because of the porn industry, but why 8 track?

8 track sound was awfull!!!! Especially compared to good quality cassettes.

    Think Disc film vs 35mm

Aint life a grin? I too had my 8 track player stolen from my van.... along with my brand friggin new Nikkormat ft2!! They couldn't have been after the camera, because it was hidden under my jean jacket on the rear floor. They took my jacket too, which was weird, as it was long before they became trendy. Losing the 8 track was no big deal, I still had my radio, and soon replaced it with a cassette deck. But man, my camera! It was the only camera I had at the time, and my auto policy wouldn't cover it as it wasn't part of the car. Fortunately my home owners policy covered it because it would be something normally found in the home. (insurance is still a bit of a mystery to me)

Yep and about a month later somebody (and I hope it was the same person) stole an electric shaver from the same car. You plugged it into the cigarette lighter socket. No big deal there because (a) I won it in a poker game and (b) the way it worked was that it didn't cut your whiskers as much as it just jerked them out by the roots. But you could not go to sleep at the wheel while using it. Fortunately for me I had stopped locking my car so that I wouldn't have to keep replacing windows.

PS...I'm getting ready to erase these reels. The one I was playing yesterday was ok, but I just heard Captain & Tennille singing "Muskrat Love" and I almost lost my lunch. Sorry if that is your favorite. Now Gino Vannelli is starting to sing "I Just Wanna Stop." So I'm going to grant his wish.
