Someone told me to try Glyoxal 40% as a replacement for formalin. I'm no chemist so I'll leave this determination to PE and others.

Would the formalin MS 37% advertised for aquarium use work?
Or does it have other ingredients in it?
Do you have a source for it?
    thanks

I can't find a good source on ebay right now. Too small quantities and too much money. Oh, that does sound like ebay.

I found another source for formalin. Not sure but he may have other photo chems.

His name is Tom and his prices were the best I found.

cinejerk, C-41 Flexicolor Stabiliser III contains formalin if you have a hard time getting it.

I haven't had problems dealing with it.

It also contains methanol, which will oxidise slowly with sodium carbonate iirc. I don't think it'd be a problem for your purpose, but look it up.

Actually now that I think about, I remember read on it about fuel cells, and simply dissolving doesn't have that reaction.. again look it up

    Athiril thanks for the info.

I did find some formalin and it's on it's way.

The above email address is the guy you need to contact.

Much cheaper than anything on ebay right now.
