I usually get around to making contact sheets. Lately I've been using the scanner a lot to do this. I use contact sheets mostly as an index to find stuff I might like to print or print again. They are easier to see than the negatives, mostly because I don't have to hold them up to the light. I don't try to do a detailed evaluation of the negative using them. I just use them to find or select stuff that I might want; then I look at the negative to see if it's worth trying to print it, and then I look at the test print to see if it's worth trying to print it right.
