If Clayne reads this, did you ever solve that light piping problem? I'm asking because I currently have another thread going here about potentially using a top glass in my glassless 35mm carrier. So far, lots of good tips and suggestions, but one that I haden't addressed yet is light shooting out on all sides, which will surely happen with this makeshift setup I'm contemplating (since the thickness of the glass will now prevent the carrier from closing down light tight.

I went back to your original post on that, but it didn't seem like there was consensus in the end regarding darkening the edges of the glass, and whether or not that would cause mirroring etc. So far the only real solution seems to be the fabric hanging down from the lamp housing around the negative stage. But since I'm doing roll film this seems kind of clumsy and not sure how it will block all the light.
