Is there an optimum in contrast for the carbon process?

Let's assume you didn't work with any other processes than carbon transfer, so your negatives would be exposed and developed for that purpose exclusively.
Now, IF something like an optimum in contrast for a carbon tissue existed, what would it be? In other words, if I would contact print a 21 step wedge to that tissue, how many steps would I count from Dmax to paper white?

To put it another way: Are there disadvantages to matching the tissue contrast to a given negative, rather than matching the negative to the process?
