    Roll paper holder / dispenser?

Is there a light tight paper dispenser for roll papers? I'm looking to use color paper that now seems to come in roll paper only. Cutting this down in the dark is difficult. Is there a dispenser that has a cutter head that could be used in the dark to cut paper to a set size? One able to hold different size rolls would be needed.

Yes ... Econo Roll, holds two 50 inch rolls at a time, you put the paper in the slot, pick your length and press .... rollers feed the paper and cutter slices .. paper is now at the bottom of the dispensor.
Its pretty large , But IMO the best there is..... Larry I am looking for one as well so if you find one and feel its not appropriate for your use, then send me a email.

John Callow may jump in here , he has a paper dispensor that sits on a table top and pushes the paper out to the length you want. I prefer the Stand Up Econo roll cutter.

Thanks Bob. The Econo Roll sounds bigger than my darkroom can handle, but if I find one I'll let you know. My processor goes to 16" and the biggest drum I have will take 20x24. So 20" is probably as large as I would need.

I forgot John used roll paper. It makes sense he would have a dispenser for it.

Meteor-Siegen and Nuova Effemme made dispensers as you described. I have 2 Meteor's 65 cm wide (white) And 2 Nuova's one 51cm one 105 cm wide ( blue ) in my dark room.
On the picture with red arrow's.

Printen is net als leren fietsen. Theorie helpt niet, je moet het doen.

    Hi Gary

    Those are like John Callows.
The one I am referring to is a stand alone and looks like a huge filing cabinate.

Are these roll cutters light tight? Can you keep paper in them with the lights on? Hmmm...

I have gone the route of paper rolls. I acquired 40" and 20" rolls. And not quite sure about handling them directly off the roll. I suppose the 20" isn't so bad to handle. Though I would prefer not. And I would like to think the 40" really isn't an option there.

Does anyone know of any place carrying dispensers new or used in Canada / US?

As well, have any of you built your own dispensers? Care to share your experiences / tips?

Roll paper cutters are exceedingly scarce these days. And if you do find one it'll most likely be as large as a casket, weigh approx. 150 lbs. designed to handle up to 52" rolls and to be wall-mounted.

I use both a Meteor Seigen and a Kreonite. I have them on castors so I can roll them around. Both these models were available in shorter versions but I've never seen them in the compact sizes. They seem to be much more common in the EU than in the states.

A word of caution in the chance event you locate a cutter and choose to have it shipped... These things are basically a sheet-metal clam-shell box containing a heavy rubber-coated roller, a motor, a rotary cutter and an anvil. The cutter and the anvil can be twisted out of alignment fairly easily if the cutter has been stood on its end. Also, keep in mind that in the event you do find a roll paper cutter, chances are it's over thirty years old. I mention this because many were fully automated and the programming controls get sticky and unreliable and the capacitors dry up (especially when they've been sitting in storage). For this reason I think it critical to fully test out a unit with a roll of paper before purchasing.

Another consideration is to cut your paper using a roll-paper compatible inkjet printer.

    Good luck finding your cutter!
