Not all that hard to find if you know where to look. Here are two sources, one at US$3.50 shipping included and one at US$3 plus US$5 shipping. Look around the superbrightleds.com site for some great, cheap LED safelight options off 120 VAC and 12 VDC.

I've done repeat business with both places and had great service.

"The safety of safelight should be judged by the
contrast rather than fog. The image contrast in
highlight area can lower significantly due to
    pre-flashing effect ... "

And a good thing too. To effect pre-exposure I've
deliberately left paper exposed to a some what
    bright corner safe-light.

"As I said before, I use sodium vapor light, and it's
very nice and less fatigue-prone (of my brain, not the
light bulb) compared to dimmer lights. My safelight
exposure is usually less than 10 seconds so I can
    keep my darkroom pretty bright."

The bright orange-ish yellow of sodium's D bands.
Sodium's 589 and 590 band's should be safe for VC
as well as Graded papers. I've not seen the lamp in
operation. Is the light's color orange-ish?

As bright an orange-ish light may be had from
the usual house hold bulbs when used with
the correct filters. My setup. Dan
