    Darkroom Friendly CD Player

    Everyone --

I picked up a nice stereo receiver at a garage sale Saturday. I 'shut off' the bright front panel lights by cutting a wire, and now I'm thinking of adding a CD player.

My question to you is: Are there any 'darkroom friendly' CD players out there? Something with dim red LEDs, or the ability to shut off the panel lights.

    What have you done?

I solved my musical light problem by putting it all in a cabinet with a door that can be closed on it light tight.Wires feed out to widely spaced speakers.

I use a computer with speakers. Works great, I just turn off the monitor when I'm working.

most any walkman with 'line out' (not all have that by any means) will work nicely without emiting any light at all. i'm listening to mine, which is playing in the darkroom, while i'm out here at the 'puter taking a break. it's a terrific accessory for long hours printing.

I bought Bose's CD Wave player last year after building my darkroom. It gives outstanding sound and the front contains only a small clock display which does not affect my printing at all. The operating buttons are on top and I am so pleased with how it affects my long printing sessions via brilliant sound production! It also has a built-in radio.

Agree with JoVo on the "walkman". Mine is CD/WMA compatible. It is plugged into a set of powered computer speakers. Good sounds less than $100. The speakers did have a green power on, so (with reference to Fugazi Dave) black gaffer tape sealed the deal.

    Rock on.

I use a standard old boombox with removeable speakers that are in each corner of the room. When developing film I throw a very high tech towel over the thing and it works fine. I don't want to gaffers tape it because then I can't tell which CD selection I'm on or what radio station.

The towel also works well for drying hands when not used as a cover.
