    Lucky enlarger restoration.

    Hello everyone,
I was walking around a swapmeet when I noticed a lucky enlarger. For $10 I couldn't refuse. I checked everything out and it's all in working order. The only problem is a little bit of rust peppered here and there and a lot of dust. So my question is what's the best way to clean the lenses and what can I do about the rust.

Lucky You! Pun intended. I have three of these, a G50 and two G70s. Easiest way to remove rust WITHOUT abrasive rubbing is a 1:4 solution of muriatic acid and water. Use gloves and other protection as you see fit and dip a rag or Q-Tip into the solution. Keep damp but not running wet, and just wipe the solution over the rust. The rust willl simply dissappear. Rinse the metal well using baking soda and water mixed to neutralize the acid and then with plain water. You can then wipe the metal with silicone spray or wax to keep the rust from reforming.

I guess all 3 of us are quite lucky!!!

I found mine about 5 years ago at a boot sale for 15 pounds, complete with a safelight, 2 developing tanks (135 and 120), 2 part boxes of paper, tongs, a slide projector, a few sticks of lighting gear and a 6x9cm 120 contact printer!! I was a happy boy indeed that day

A few more modern enlargers have come and gone since then but my lucky is still the one in most use...
