    One of my favorite beers of all time is Old Dominion Oak Barrel Stout (Ashburn, VA | http://www.olddominion.com/brews/). And the growlers they came in were dark brown and flip to with a steel handle. Really nice German growlers. Another favorite is Hennepin from Brewery Ommegang (Cooperstown, NY | http://www.ommegang.com/). When I live Upstate, it was cheap(ish) and damn good - Belgian style, but not as heavy as some from Belgium.     I don't know if you guys have it in the USA, but in Canada, most commercial beers come in 1.18L brown bottles with decent-sized mouths and screw tops.

    The volume is just perfect for small tank development chemicals, and the rubber seals in the screw tops do an excellent job of keeping the chemicals safe. I use exactly four bottles to store a 5L XTOL batch.

    The best thing about them? They cost me but pennies (I know, it's probably the equivalent of a mortgage in US dollars...) at the dépanneur, since those bottles are refundable.

    The only thing to suffer is the puzzled look of the clerk who wonders why you want to buy a couple of disgusting bottles that were probably chugged by meth addicts with unnameable mouth diseases.

    I use 750ml wine bottles with smaller amounts decanted to 12oz amber beer bottles. For stoppers, I use plastic reusable wine bottle stoppers and these seem to fit both wine and beer bottles. I also wrap saran wrap around the stoppers to help seal. The plastic stoppers were only a few dollars for a pack of 12 or so at a local wine and beer making supply shop, a 45 minute drive from Lawrence.

    I have a beer bottle capper that could be used, but I'm thinking that if the bottle is filled to the top with no air space, any temperature change (increase) might cause the top to pop or leak and not reseal. You can generally tell if a cap doesn't seal on a bottle of beer because it will lose its fizz. Would it be good to add carbonation to developer so you could tell if your bottle didn't seal well?
