Price of used Schneider Super Symmar HM 120mm/5.6

Lensfielders currently has one for sale for $1,100. It appears to be in excellent condition but is that a high price? I realize this is a highly regarded "(future) classic" lens, but it seems like a lot. Also, what is the real deal with the HM designation. Is it really "High Modulation" as people often say, or something else like "High Magnification" since is seems to otherwise be exclusively reserved for Makro Symmars?

    Thanks
    Michael

"High Modulation" is correct; Schneider used that designation for enlarging lenses too. What distinguishes the SS-HM series is their 80-degree coverage. They correspond to the Rodenstock Apo-Sironar(-W) series, except that Rodenstock offered 150/210/300 while Schneider offered 120/150/210. In the shared focal lengths (150, 210), the Rodenstocks are much smaller and lighter. Optically, they're all fine lenses.

Thanks. Seems like a lot of people liked the 120 HM.

The 120 HM in particular hits a sweet spot. The 72-degree plasmats in that focal length, like the 120 Apo-Symmar, have pretty tight coverage for 4x5. OTOH, the 120mm wide angles, like the Super Angulon, have ample coverage but are much bigger and heavier.
