Have a look at the sinar website

(link in description of Sinar f1/f2) which explains this term better than I could!

I have one too. Despite it's age, and a long history in a pro studio (as evidenced by all the scratches and bumps) the movements all work like silk and lock solidly. Can't claim extensive experience of view cameras in general, but this is a nice camera that packs down quickly as the standards dismount easily so it is useable in the field - it's fairly light for a monorail too at around 2.8 kilos.
No, I'm NOT selling it...
Bob.
