neg sleeves for 7x17 film

alright I did a search and nothing came up.... (if I missed it just slap me and point me in the right direction)

Im looking for a way to store my 7x17 negs (only have about 6 so far) but I wanna take care of them as best I can. I bought some Printfile sleeves today for 11x17 prints... Im hoping these are good enough... but they are pretty pricey to buy here in town. $23 for 25 of them. I like how heavy weight they are.

wondering if anyone has found any places that sells them to the actual size of the negative (or slightly larger) I check at light impressions and couldnt find anything.

any thoughts by you other banquet format shooters (Mutmansky, kerik, etc etc) thanks in advance.

Well, there is only one option for 7x17 sleeves that fit exactly that I'm aware of, and it involves a $3500 minimum order. The View Camera Store used to have the sleeves, but they ran out, and I didn't get the impression they were going to order anymore.

Other than that, the 11x17 sleeves you mention may be your best option. You may want to look at a source like:

They will sell direct, and they are also the people who can make the film sleeves special order. A group of us made a special order for 12x20 sleeves about 3 years ago, and it worked out pretty well. At the time, I mentioned getting sleeves done for 7x17, and didn't get enough interest to do it.

Maybe this time there will be enough interest.


Other than that, you could just leave them stacked in the boxes the film came in (until the cardboard disintegrates the film! I don't get the impression the film boxes are terribly archival).

Showing my ignorance but I can learn too. Are these poly bags that get sold on Ebay taboo? Poly bad for film? Price is attractive so there must be something wrong for archival storage.

I have one word in resopnse to those bags... 'slip agents'. OK.. that's two words.

If they use slip agents to manufacture the plastic, there could be an archival concern in the future. If there is a way to verify that no harmful slip agents are used, they may be a good inexpensive alternative, but I would look at getting them in 4 mil or so rathern than the 2 mil. The corners of the film will dig in to a thin plastic pretty easily.

Impact Images has about 50 bag sizes. They are in El Dorado Hills, Ca.
Phone: 1-800-233-2630. Contact them and they will send a size and price list and a sample. The bags are excellent for prints or negatives. They are almost perfectly clear. They can be purchased in quantities of 25 per box. (I think) They claim the bags are archival. I use them for all matted prints and large negatives.

I would contact Filmguard (see Michael's reply). I had a run of 7x17, 7x11, 5x12 and 7x8.5 (for 6.5x8.5) made... and the bill for a whole bunch of sleeves was less then $500. Work with the customer service folks and you will get a supply that will last you a very long time.
