Someone earlier posted that some lenses get "lazy" , particularly at the slower speeds if not used at those speeds occasionally. I'm assuming this translates to run them through all speeds occasionally to avoid this?

This phenomenon of shutter "laziness" is nothing more than an indication that the shutter needs to be cleaned. Anything else is just a temporary measure that may or may not work reliably.
