Lensboard opening to small
Hello All,
I have a Wollensak lens in a Alphax shutter and the hole in my Linhof lensboard is just a little to small for the lens to fit through. Any ideas on what to use to ground the hole larger? I have a dremel but am unsure as to which type of attachment works best. Any ideas would be great.
thanks

Assuming the board is aluminum, you can use a carbide burr on the Dremel. The shape I've used in the past is long and pointed, so it has a flat cutting part and a taperd part. They cut fast, however, and can leave a pretty ugly hole. I've also used a sanding drum on the Dremel and find that better since it cuts slower. Last time I needed to enlarge a hole on a Cambo board I went "old school" and used a file. Took more time but since it cut slower I got a much noicer hole.

Agree with previous poster. Use a half-round file and rotate the board constantly as you file - should only take a minute or two to enlarge a hole 1 mm.

Have to agree, I've opened up a few Linhof type boards and a half round hand-file is fast even when opening up quite substantially.

Sandpaper on a large dowel or other round form works too, maybe slightly slower than a file. Leave the dremel in it's box.

before you start filing or sanding take the lens and center it on the board and draw a circle with a pencil on the board, then when you start filing you have a guide to go by. use a file and just take your time. when that part is complete then screw the retaining ring tight to the lens , position the lens on the board the way you want it and mark the holes with a pencil then drilll them out, get some small screws and nuts at the local hardware, (they usually have the really small stuff) also get a lock washer while your at it and there you have it a functioning usable lens set up .hope this helps as i have done exactly what your doing and this system worked well for me...........frank

Thanks for all the great info. I will keep the dremel in the closet and use the 1/2 round rasp that I have.
