    Tripod suggestions please!

Hey, I currently shoot a lot of 4x5, and I am looking for a tripod that would be ideal for large format macro, landscape, and portraiture. I don't really like geared heads as i feel that they are too susceptible to damage.

I also want a tripod that could be able to handle an 8x10 camera with ease, for when I finish that project...

For the two formats mentioned, I like Ries J 100-2, with the J 250 two-way tilt head. For 4x5 up to 5x7, I like Ries J100. I find the J100 too springy for my taste when used with 8x10.

There are so many good tripods available so you are rather spoilt for choice. Manfrotto, Slik, Velbon are all good makes.

I'm currently using a Manfroto 074 with a 3 way head, it's a great tripod but I prefer a video style head, so will change it at some point. The current equivalent is the 161MKII. I use the tripod for 5x4 and 10x8 and it's sturdy while still being reasonable to carry.
