Differences G-claron for enlarging or for view camera?

Hi everybody,
I just bought a 240mm f9 G-claron, and after winning the auction the seller has contacted me saying that she is sorry that aparently this is an enlarging lens and not usable in a view camera?

I did not know there were two types of G-clarons, any help will be greatly appreciated.

I would guess she said that as it probably has no shutter. Either use a packard shutter or a lens cap. Apart from that it is an excellent lens for large format.

Or if you've got a spare #1 shutter it should just screw in.

I have a 305 G Claron that I got to double as an 8x10 camera lens and enlarging lens. It is perfectly sharp as a camera lens but it is the least sharp of all my enlarging lenses.

Daniel, If it is a G-Claron it will fit straight into a Copal 1 all you need is an f stop scale that match and you can get those from Schneider.

IMHO f/9 is darn dim for focusing your enlarger. The 240 mm G is a dandy view camera lens though. Tell her that if selling you the g claron really bothers her that you won't mind her taking an extra $40 off the price

You might look for 127mm Tominon or Ysaron lenses off old Polaroid copy cameras that come in #1 copal or prontor press shutters (make sure they have apertures!)
You might be able to score one for $40 or thereabouts.

I purchased a 240 g claron about 15 years ago as an 8x10 enlarging lens and to double as a studio lens. I got mine in a copal 1 and find it excellent for both applications. I since have purchased a 150 barrel mounted and installed it in a copal 0 and bought a 305 in a copal 1. All very fine lenses and great for generap purpose. the also have the added bonus of a very large image circle.
